Objective

Improve energy efficiency and operational performance.

Solution

Real-time energy monitoring and workflow integration.

Future Plans

Expand monitoring to include spare parts.

Key Outcome

Up to 80% downtime reduction on select machines.

Objectives

Hewland Engineering partnered with Enerlytic to achieve the following objectives:

  • Achieve an energy reduction target of 12%
  • Gain real-time insights into energy consumption across their manufacturing facility.
  • Minimise downtime of critical machines and optimise overall
    operational efficiency.
  • Support the company-wide objective to significantly reduce
energy consumption by leveraging data-driven insights.

Solutions

Enerlytic collaborated with Hewland Engineering to implement a comprehensive monitoring solution for their manufacturing facility:

Installation of CT Clamps

Enerlytic installed Current Transformer (CT) clamps on individual machines across the factory floor to monitor energy consumption in real time. Additionally, Enerlytic monitored Hewland’s main meter to capture facility-wide energy usage.

Real-Time Monitoring Tool

Enerlytic provided a robust monitoring tool capable of reporting
energy usage every 30 seconds for each machine. This data was used alongside Hewland’s Smart Factory tool to allow seamless tracking of workflows and processes.

Pinpointed Monitoring by Sections

Hewland began the project by focusing on specific areas of the site, starting with the Turning Section. By targeting specific areas, such as this section initially and the Gear Section in the next phase, they ensured high accuracy in the data collected and outcomes achieved.

Phased Implementation

The initial phase focused on monitoring individual machines within each section. The second phase will expand the scope to include spare parts, further enhancing insights and operational efficiency.

Working with Enerlytic has been a successful journey for Hewland, allowing for quick and easy data access. The tool is very intuitive and easy to use and saved us time for data analysis, communication with the wider teams, implementation of best practices and monitoring of implemented actions. Enerlytic flexibility in their approach and constant support gave us opportunity for slight adjustments that suited our needs and was much appreciated.
